President and CEO Andrew Sturgeon serves as principal-in-charge for long-term clients such as Irving Oil Corporation, Grant Corporation of Bangor, and a number of Moosehead Lake and western Maine development projects. He also oversees AMES A/E daily and financial operations and mentors staff.
Andy has owned a number of businesses in the Bangor area, giving him a clear understanding of the demanding issues AMES A/E commercial clients face. In 1985, Andy established A.E. Sturgeon & Company, which grew into one of the two largest land surveying and planning firms in northern and central Maine. In 1992, AMES A/E acquired Sturgeon's business, and Andy became vice president of AMES A/E. Since Brian Ames founded the Ames Corporation in 1974, the firm has grown to include 50 employees. He has successfully led clients through permitting, zoning studies, surveys, design, and construction on projects ranging from single-family homes to power plants. Thanks to a strong customer focus, AMES A/E still serves many of the same clients Brian began working with 30 years ago.
Today, Brian concentrates on budgeting, scheduling, and energy concerns. He understands clients’ priorities and offers pertinent advice about developing and growing their business operations.
Brian’s interest in development and design began nearly 50 years ago when he worked as an Eagle Scout for Bangor-based firm Prentiss & Carlisle doing forestry surveys. Following graduation from the University of Maine in 1966, Brian worked for large manufacturing and construction companies in Buffalo, Los Angeles, New York City, and New Jersey.

As senior project architect with Ware Malcomb in Irvine, California, Ellen Angel gained considerable high-rise commercial experience designing five- and eight-story office buildings for corporations such as Panattoni Piemonte, Nexus MacArthur, and Experian. She also drew plans for a number of multi-phased business centers. Ellen got her start in California as an intern with architecture fellow Ron Yeo, FAIA.
Ellen ran Ellen Angel Architect in Eastport, Maine for 17 years, specializing in custom coastal residential, non-acute healthcare, and commercial building design.

Steve Ribble, has provided site design and landscape architecture services for educational, correctional, corporate, residential development, and park/open space projects. Strong environmental science capabilities and experience with transportation, distribution, manufacturing, and marketing make him a capable problem solver and resource. He also has an excellent track record at municipal planning board meetings — nearly every rezoning and permitting project review he has handled passed local regulations at the first hearing.
Steve worked as a landscape architect for DLZ, an international architecture, engineering, and land planning firm before coming to AMES A/E. Since then, he has worked on residential and commercial subdivisions and finalized construction documents for the renovation of Bangor’s West Market Square.

George Hanson has 35 years of experience in the fields of construction, land surveying, construction administration, construction inspection, and management. His skills include inspection of private, public, and municipal facilities, including HUD, MSHA, and FmHA housing projects throughout Maine. He also spent several years on the engineering staff of a large Maine paper mill, where he worked in project design, cost analysis, drafting, and project implementation.
Operating his own land surveying company and home construction business allowed George to develop excellent communication and arbitration skills. He called on those skills while directing a multi-component housing program for a large non-profit organization, which required daily contact with staff at local, county, and state levels.

As project manager for AMES A/E, Jamie Mahoney has overseen the renovation and construction of 59 Irving stores throughout New England since 1999. He has more than 13 years of experience in structural, geotechnical, and civil design engineering. His background includes experience with healthcare and institutional facilities, government and industrial facilities, and transportation projects, such as ports and site inspections.
Jamie has also completed a number of building analysis reports, including feasibility of floor additions, structural evaluations, and building envelope recommendations.

AMES A/E welcomed John Allen to the company after acquiring A.E. Sturgeon & Company, the land surveying company where he worked. With more than 16 years’ experience in mapping, drafting, and land surveying, he now leads the AMES A/E land surveying division. John’s expertise includes project management and supervision of field crews and survey departments.
John’s significant experience working with town and state regulating agencies and in subdivision design, road layout, boundary work, and deed research helps him provide concrete answers for AMES A/E clients. In addition, he is knowledgeable about state, LURC, and DEP regulations.

As land surveying party chief, Dan works with clients on Land Development Plans within the Unorganized Townships and Plantations in Maine. He calls on his experience with LURC rezoning petition, subdivision design and planning, shore land alteration permitting, road permitting, and utility permitting to advise AMES A/E clients and then presents on their behalf at public hearings. Dan is a surveyor in training and certified in erosion and sedimentation control practices.
Prior to joining AMES A/E, Dan worked at Lane Supply Company as a mechanical draftsman and field layout person. He also worked at Bath Iron Works as a designer in the HVAC design department for the DDG-51 Aegis Class Destroyer. Dan is a six-year U.S. Navy submarine veteran, where he served as a nuclear power plant instructor, nuclear power plant operator, and an engineering laboratory technician.

John Theriault has 13 years experience in traffic analysis, highway design, and site development. As a lead highway/traffic design engineer, he has worked on numerous Maine and New Hampshire DOT roadway and rail projects and on municipal highway projects. His work for AMES A/E corporate clients includes traffic analysis to determine lane requirements, intersection and roadway layout and geometry, traffic signal design and timing, traffic control plans, pavement design, and highway drainage.
John is responsible for developing traffic impact studies that summarize anticipated traffic generated with new development, and he makes recommendations to alleviate additional traffic volume. His clients include Wal-Mart, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Eastern Maine Healthcare.
