Challenges
To design an addition to an historic building that houses a history museum. The owner wanted the addition built using modern materials and methods for cost efficiency while also reflecting its historic surroundings.
Solution
- AMES A/E conducted a review of the existing building and developed two schemes for the addition, both of which reflect the proportions, style and image of the original horse barn and both of which would restore the estate to its original size, while preserving the current structure of both the carriage house and museum.
- We also proposed a third scheme for a freestanding building near the original location of a horse barn to provide the owner with another option.
