Challenges
|
- To convert the existing Old Town Municipal Building into an enlarged fire department and police facility. Work to include a total interior renovation as well as some new construction.
- An existing site that didn’t allow for much expansion.
- Since the City viewed the building as multipurpose, many people — with many different goals and interests — sat on the building committee.

Solution
|
Through a dynamic design charrette, the building committee communicated well and reached consensus on the use of the building, with each area set up for maximum efficiency. The core activities of the fire department are located near the expanded garage bays, while the police department features a booking area near a designated vehicle entrance and a dispatch area near the central reception area.
